How does a heated seat cushion work? It looks like an ordinary chair cushion, but the seat and back contain a heating element that runs on a wireless battery. The guest switches it on, chooses a setting and is warm within a short time. Below you will read, step by step, how it works, from battery to charging station.
The heating element
The seat and back contain a thin heating element. It passes the warmth directly to the guest. Because the warmth does not go into the air first, as with a heater, the cushion also feels warm in wind. The element is safely tucked away in the filling, so the guest notices nothing of it apart from the warmth.
The battery
Each cushion has its own wireless battery in the compartment at the back. On the highest setting, a full battery lasts up to 8 hours, enough for a whole afternoon and evening. On a lower setting it lasts longer. The small screen on the battery shows the charge percentage. Thanks to the window in the HeatUup logo it remains visible, so your team can see at a glance which battery is full.
How does a heated seat cushion work for the guest?
For the guest it is simple. They sit down, switch the cushion on and choose the setting, up to 45 degrees. Anyone who feels less cold chooses a lower setting. That makes it more comfortable than a heater that burns equally hard for everyone. Guests do not need to reach for a blanket and can leave their coat open.
Charging in the charging station
After closing time, your team takes the batteries out of the cushions and places them in the charging station. One station holds ten batteries. By the next morning they are full again. An extra battery costs € 50 each, useful for long days or for swapping batteries during a shift.
Weather and maintenance
The Olefin and Paris cushions have a waterproof TPU coating and dry quickly. The fabric is colourfast, so the cushion still looks well cared for after heavy use. Sheepskin is long-haired sheepskin and intended for covered areas or dry weather. If you would like the cushions refreshed every year, that is possible with an optional refit at € 50 per cushion.
The models
- Olefin: weather-resistant, for most terrace chairs, nine colours.
- Paris: for rattan bistro chairs, three colours. Also read heating bistro chairs.
- Sheepskin: long-haired sheepskin, for a luxurious look, two colours.
Safe in use
The cushion runs on a battery, so there are no cables across the terrace and no open flame or gas bottle near guests. The battery sits in its own compartment at the back, outside the seating area. After use it goes indoors into the charging station, so nothing is charging outside overnight.
What does it cost?
With the heat agreement you pay a deposit per cushion (€ 50 for Olefin and Paris, € 60 for Sheepskin) followed by € 5 per cushion per month. Battery, service and warranty are included. See the prices for a worked example.
Feel it for yourself
The cushions are on display in the showrooms at Stadsjochies and Bistro Madeleine in Utrecht. Or try them free for one month on your own terrace, with up to 10 cushions.
