Rent or buy heated seat cushions: which suits you?

To rent heated seat cushions costs you a small deposit and € 5 per cushion per month, with battery, service and warranty included. To buy costs € 200 to € 250 per cushion in one payment. Renting suits you if you do not want to tie up capital and want certainty about maintenance; buying suits you if you prefer to pay in full straight away.

Two ways to get heated cushions

Jemtec supplies the HeatUup cushions in two ways:

1. The heat agreement: you rent the cushions for 36 months at a fixed monthly fee.
2. Buy outright: you pay for the cushions in one payment and they are yours.

In both cases you receive the same cushions, with 8 hours of warmth on the highest setting (45 degrees) and a battery with a display showing the charge level. You can read more about the technology in How does a heated seat cushion work?

How to rent heated seat cushions: the heat agreement

With the heat agreement you pay a deposit per cushion and then a fixed amount per month:

• Olefin and Paris: € 50 deposit, then € 5 per month.
• Sheepskin: € 60 deposit, then € 5 per month.
• Charging station: € 200 each, one-off. One station holds 10 batteries.

The monthly fee covers the battery, service and warranty. If a cushion wears out or something breaks, HeatUup inspects it on site and replaces it. You pay monthly via Stripe. The agreement runs for 36 months and then ends automatically. The notice period is 12 months and you take a minimum of 10 cushions.

Buying: pay in one go

If you would rather not have a monthly fee, you buy the cushions outright:

• Olefin and Paris: € 200 per cushion.
• Sheepskin: € 250 per cushion.
• Charging station: € 200 each, also when buying.

The battery is included in the purchase price. An extra battery costs € 50 each, whether you rent or buy. We prepare a quotation via jemtec.nl automatically and send it to you straight away. The quotation is valid for 30 days.

Worked example: 20 Olefin cushions

This is how the two routes compare for a terrace with 20 seats and Olefin cushions:

All amounts are excl. VAT. When renting, you pay € 600 more over three years. In return you get the battery, service, warranty and replacement in case of wear or defects. When should you choose to rent?

Renting suits you if:

• you would rather put your money into stock, staff or furnishings than into patio heating;
• you want a fixed amount per month, without unexpected repairs;
• you want certainty that a worn or defective cushion will be replaced;
• you want to work with a fixed item in your budget each season.

With € 1,400 upfront you have 20 heated seats on your terrace. When buying, that is € 4,400.

When should you choose to buy?

Buying suits you if:

• you have enough room in your budget to pay in one go;
• you want to use the cushions for a long time without ongoing monthly costs;
• you want to arrange maintenance and replacement yourself.

If you buy, you can have the cushions refreshed with an annual refit for € 50 per cushion. This refit is optional.

Which model suits your chairs?

The choice between renting and buying is separate from the model. You choose from three cushions:

• Olefin: weather resistant, in 9 colours. For straight chairs.
• Paris: for bistro chairs, in 3 colours.
• Sheepskin: long-haired sheepskin for maximum insulation, in 2 colours.

If you have a new terrace or are unsure about your chairs, Jemtec can supply the matching chair for € 50 per chair, also under the heat agreement. A rattan bistro chair goes with Paris, a straight chair of 45 by 45 centimetres with Olefin and Sheepskin.

What does it bring in?

Tests with restaurants show that heated cushions extend the terrace season by 6 to 8 weeks. Weigh those extra weeks against € 5 per cushion per month, and you will see whether renting makes sense for your business.
